About Arena

More than just a boxing club!

Since 2014, Arena Boxing Club has been more than just a boxing gym. We’re a volunteer-run, non-profit club helping people develop through boxing, from their first session to national champions and international competition. Along the way, we build confidence, discipline and resilience that extends beyond the ring and into the community.

Why Arena?

Walking into a boxing gym for the first time can feel daunting, we get it. At Arena, you’ll be welcomed whatever your age, experience or goals. Whether you’re here to get fit, learn something new, build confidence or compete, our coaches and members are here to support you every step of the way.

A natural leader with a warm and enthusiastic personality, he knows how to make training fun while still challenging people to push themselves, learn and improve.

Arena Boxing Club Founder and England Boxing Volunteer Steve Clark

Steve Clark

Founder & Volunteer · England Boxing Volunteer

Steve’s journey in boxing spans decades, and his influence can still be felt throughout Arena today. After competing as an amateur from a young age, with over 50 bouts under his belt, Steve went on to dedicate more than 20 years to coaching, first at Bournemouth Amateur Boxing Club before founding Arena in 2014. Over the years, he has helped develop some fantastic boxers, including multiple National Champions, while always placing equal importance on building confidence, discipline and strong members of the community. We’re incredibly lucky that Steve still comes down to the gym to help coach, sharing his wealth of knowledge and experience with both our boxers and coaching team.

Arena standards

The Arena Ethos

Our coaches see boxers at their best and their worst, through victories, setbacks and the hard work in between. Whatever the outcome, the message remains the same: work hard, believe in yourself, and treat others with respect.

As a volunteer-run club, our coaches give their time because they believe boxing can build far more than physical skill. They help boxers develop confidence, discipline, resilience and character, both inside and outside the ring. Their role goes beyond teaching technique; they set standards, lead by example and give our boxers the support and belief they need to face challenges and keep moving forward.

Find the right class

View the latest timetable below, then email the club. We’ll learn a little about you and help work out which class is the right fit. Classes cannot be booked through this website.

01

Amateur Development Class

Invite only

Our Amateur Development classes are designed for club members who are nearly ready to compete and need a little more time to develop their skills, gain sparring experience and prepare for the demands of competition. Boxers progress into these sessions from our Keep Fit Boxing classes, where they train alongside our novice boxers, those who have already had a limited number of contests. This gives aspiring competitors the opportunity to experience a more competition-focused environment, build confidence and understand what it takes to step into the ring. The aim is simple: to prepare boxers physically and mentally for their first contest and help them make the transition into competitive boxing with confidence.

02

Amateur Competitive Class

Invite only

Our Amateur Competitive Class is the next step for boxers who have progressed through the development pathway and are ready for a higher level of training and competition. This is our most demanding session, designed for experienced boxers who are committed to training hard, maintaining high standards and continually improving. The class brings together experienced competitors, including National and Four Nations Champions, as well as boxers on the England pathway and members of England squads. Sessions are intense, focused and disciplined, with a clear emphasis on preparing boxers to perform at the highest level.

03

Kids Boxing

Ages 8 to 12

Our Kids Boxing classes are a fun and welcoming introduction to the sport for children aged 8 to 12. Sessions focus on learning the fundamentals of boxing, developing coordination, fitness and confidence, all while keeping things active and enjoyable. It’s a great way for children to learn new skills, build confidence and discover what boxing is all about in a safe and supportive environment.

04

Keep Fit Boxing

Beginners welcome

Our Keep Fit Boxing classes are the perfect introduction to boxing for beginners, with no previous experience required. Sessions combine boxing drills, technique and fitness in a welcoming environment, helping members build confidence, develop their skills and discover what they enjoy about the sport. The class is open to a mix of ages and abilities, and there’s no pressure to compete. Those who decide they want to take their boxing further can progress into our Amateur Development classes when the coaches feel they’re ready, while those who simply enjoy training can continue attending Keep Fit Boxing. It’s a chance to find your path in boxing, at your own pace.

05

Boxing Conditioning

Invite only

Boxing Conditioning is our dedicated strength and conditioning session for competitive boxers. Designed to complement their boxing training, these sessions focus on developing the fitness, strength, speed and mindset needed to perform at the highest level. Every exercise is boxing-specific, helping our boxers become faster, stronger and more resilient when they step into the ring. Sessions are physically demanding and challenging, and are a mandatory part of the training programme for anyone competing for Arena.
